People say this to us daily. Like it is something we should do....."Now you have a nice day.....don't have a pissy one!"

But my question is.......How? How do we assure ourselves of having a nice day. We are totally in control of what we do and the decisions WE make for ourselves. But who is to assure us that someone won't come along and totally botch up the "nice day" we had going on? Should we be more in control?

How do we "have a nice day?"

I'm paid to botch up people's nice days. So I know how people go about and what they do to have a nice day. In many cases they need their nice day scrambled. There is an assurance of nothing throughout the day unless you live in a bubble of delusional expectation. I try and stay cutting edge but the older I get the more the little things mean. Where would society be if we didn't have these unhealthy little social graces ? I don't say have a nice day very often I do say "How are you" and I don't really want to know. As I get older my nice day boils down to really simple things and WOW thrown in once and awhile. I'm no longer an excitable boy.

Well, he went down to dinner in his Sunday best
Excitable boy, they all said
And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

He took in the four a.m. show at the Clark
Excitable boy, they all said
And he bit the usherette's leg in the dark
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

I learned at a previous job that we are supposed to say "I hope you have a nice day," because telling someone to have a nice day is giving them a command. And whether it's a nice one or not, people don't like being told what to do.
So to answer your question...add "I hope" in front of it and then you're assured not to screw up when saying it. That way, you will be the one to make sure you have a nice day!
Also, it's just a greeting...a little more than a hello. If you ask "how are you doing" then you just might get the person to go into the LIFE STORY! We don't want that!!

To have a nice day starts within.Yes,there is always some SOB that will try to screw up your day but if your at peace with yourself you'll realize these type of people only hurt themselves in the end.You are responsible for your own well-being no matter what other people say or do.
How do I do it? Every day I make sure I take some time for ME.Essentially,my well-being comes first, above all else. For if I'm not happy and centred how can I really be of use to anybody? To have a nice day is to just enjoy being alive.

I wish I could tell you but, as it's been so long since I've had one, I'm not sure I remember how to get one.

Perhaps it would be better to say, ""Have a day which will be determined in large part by your dreams and by your struggle to make them real.", but that implies free will --- and that is an illusion (not to mention that it's just a tad verbose).

Frankly, I don't think most people who tell someone to "have a nice day" actually give a rat's a$$ one way or the other as to how their day will unfold; I can't imagine that the check-out chick at Wal-Mart would be shocked if she found out, after going to the trouble to tell me to have a good day, that it actually sucked ("Oh my goodness! I don't know WHAT could have happened! After all, I DID tell him to HAVE A NICE DAY! Should I send him a card, or maybe some flowers?"...).

It is simply a pleasantry; a quick and cordial mannerism to end an exchange; nothing more.

I just tell people to "have a day". --- A win-win statement if there ever was one... :-))

p.s. Welcome back,... and have a day! :-D

We cant, nothing is really assured before its happened assurance comes at the end of whats happened, just go about the day as you normally would, if no hitches happen then and only then can you be assured that you had a good day. People who wish you a nice day in passing mean they hope your day goes well and they wish you no malice, its being polite. x

Well I suppose that most of us wake up with the hope and possibility of having a nice day. What we make of it is usually the deciding factor. Most of the time our attitude does make quite a difference in whether or not it remains good. Of course there can always be factors thrown in that can ruin the day no matter how hard we try otherwise.

How do you like it when people say "Have a good one!" I always want to say, "A good what? Hamburger? Affair? BM?" Maybe that one is easier to achieve because it could also be have a good cry, a good fight, maybe that one is safer to say, because it is like saying, whatever you have, nice or not, just make sure it is a GOOD one!!!

I wear a smiley face mask. It really works. Have a nice day. That is an order. I will be checking up on you. No frowning allowed. The person who says "have a nice day " to you has control of your happiness for that day. It is an irrefutable law of nature. There is no way to escape it. I am going miniature golfing with my nine year old son and his friend. That is how I am having my nice day. Smile!

It's good to have main control of ourselves. But how?

The very nice day to me is the day that any good event or news happen to me. It's the day my heart feel enthusiastic. It doesn't mean I have to care or share the joy for tomorrow. Life is an unpredictable product. Thing can change!

I think it's a little bit ambitious to have nice day all your life. No body has...

For me, I encounter bad days more than double of my good one. So I shall enjoy the day as it goes. When it's nice, I have to laugh. In case bad day, if I have to cry, I should cry.

Whenever I hear that phrase, it means nothing because most of the people telling you that don't give a damn one way or another.
Is it just a habit we get into? Possibly.
One minute you are sailing along nicely and the next some jerk has ruined it for you.
I guess the trick to that is to let the jerk be and ignore his actions. Why should we let someone else spoil our good day?

Who knows??: "Have a nice day" is a form of an automated message I would say. It is recorded on every ones' tongue that is often 'played' unconsciously. It is said merely just as a compliment and a form of a daily small lies.Would it sound polite if you will say "Have a horrible day"? Nobody would say that anyway. Well, have a nice day!
