a bot is just a computer that's logged in as if they were a user but they're not. They're just a program running off of scripts. So it's like a computer person sort of like in video gaming when you have real players and computer players

Play Yahoo Chess and look for names like 'a sexy girl 43' etc and then you will know the true horror of automated response leading directly to a pay per view porn site. The sad thing is, I have seen people actually trying to talk to these bots....

You get them a lot on Internet Relay Chat. it's a program that contributes to the chatroom but is running automatically rather than a real person typing in.

For some things (like quizzes) this can be useful but mostly it's some nonsense along the lines of "For sexy chat go to www.sexychat.com and type "Lonely Sucker" followed by your credit card details!" and can be a royal pain.

It's an automated persona (computer generated), often made up by companies trying to get you to go to their site !

They do not exist and if you come across them and can get hold of the email address, sign it up to every site you come across and ask for all promotional emails to be sent - it screws with their systems.
