Attacking the family unit is quite dangerous.

Great question. Don't you wish you could get a straight answer- instead of name calling? I've given up asking those kinds of questions because people can't answer them sensibly.

Another and why do you??? Liberals have as many family values as you neocons seem to think you have. But you know what if it's a problem for you that we support gays adopting children then why are you and your friends not adopting all of the kids who have no one? Put your money where your big mouth is! I think every family who has a problem with, abortion, gay rights and anything else should be made to adopt a child from foster care, Kids no one wants. And they should be monitored to make sure that they are raising that child correctly with love. And after all of you have done that then you can tell me what I should do. Until then go read and get educated. Go to where these poor kids are housed in your area and see what reality is and how you can help. In other words get a life and behave like the Christians you profess to be!!!!

Because forming a family unit is not necessary for procreation. Historically, the big drive for a man to have a child with a woman he is married to is so he can sire a son who may legitimately inherit his name and his posessions.

Notice how even in polygamist societies, it's one guy with a bunch of women. Again, same reason. In such societies (including ours) only a legitimately born son can carry on the family name and inheritance.

So flip the question - why are conservatives so dumb that they only accept 1 man + 1 woman + N children = family unit? It's because many of the most influential conservative groups are also male-centric and hold men superior to women. You can find such diverse examples as the Roman Catholic Church and radical Islamic sects in the Middle East - two cultures who otherwise are at complete odds. They're both very male-centric, and involve women but in obviously inferior roles.

So if conservatives weren't so concerned about passing on wealth or inheriting it, and keeping the "family name" alive (e.g. delusions of blue blood royalty), then they could focus more on actually helping others and improving themselves and not just criticizing everyone else.

It's not just liberals, buddy. Lots of us have trouble figuring that out. For example, if one parent dies, is the other parent and their kids still a family? Or if they are divorced? Or a father simply refuses to accept responsibility for his kids and their mother; are the mother and kids still a family? Or do you consider the father nominally still a member of the family, even though they haven't heard from him in years? Suppose he's already started a family somewhere else, but they don't know it?

Or what about a woman who has no "natural" family, and so accepts being informally adopted by a neighbor who calls her "momma" and includes her in family activities, and loves and cares for her? (That last one is me.)

Maybe we should forget about having a legal definition of "family" and go for a legal definition of "household" instead. That one is easy: all people whose legal residence is this address. Adults, children, related in whatever way is their business. But they share the household, and therefore the expenses of maintaining it. In terms of taxes and other government programs which are based on economic factors, that would be the most fair and equitable way.

well i guess all conservatives arent that bright either since your mom and dad marriages fail more than 65% of the time. what message does that send the kids. an as a soulution to all the kids that are left in foster homes or group homes the gay couples can adopt them since there are more than enough to go around. and i'll say this once again...people that are gay dont make that choice it is a genetic predisposition just like blue eyes or black skin. so i guess that would make you prejudice to judge some1 on something they have no control over. and my friend was adopted by 2 lesbians and he is as normal as anyone else(just saying this before you start to say that gay parents will have gay kids.) and the family unit is only what it is now after religions have said it is a sin to be gay. there were many cultures that had homosexuals.relationships before christianity came along and said they will burn in hell. also chech this out it is a link to info on studies that show that a gay family can be as stable or more stable then straight families.

Is this the conserves most important issue?
You need to look around, perhaps volunteer in a hospital.
You're wearing rose colored glasses in a bleak world.

Did you see the price of gas today? That means every product
you buy, will increase in price. Employers are reluctant to
give raises. Or, are you too young to drive & buy groceries?

I'm sure the Moms & Dads are loving seeing their sons
return home in a flag covered coffin. Is that the family
you speak of?

Um, excuse me, but what makes you think this concept is limited to liberals...what rock are you living under?? This is not just a situation in the US, but the entire world. Honestly, Gays and Lesbians are equally able to care for a child as 'Moms and Dads' maybe even better!

If you don't agree, thats fine, but why do you have to push your views onto everyone else. Yes...you are the smart ones (she said sarcastically)!!

Wake Up!!

In an ideal world there would be a mum dad scinario, but what if they arnt around for some reason. This is the problem with conservatives, no vision or realism.

Throwing the labels around is very childish. You stink. See, childish.

If we can't figure it out, then why do liberal states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York) have the lowest divorce rates in the US, while conservative states (Wyoming, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nevada) have the highest? If you ask me, it seems conservatives should be asking us for family advice!

That is your family unit. Why can't people live the way they choose? I am not gay and have a traditional family that being said I do not care if my neighbors are two gay males, it just does not concern me as long as they are good neighbors that is all that matters in my opinion.
