Twelve to twenty musicians playing at the same time without tracking over errant notes or improving a line. If they're recording, they do it over until the producer and bandleader agree on the one with the least deviations and/or the best ad-libs and cleanest articulation. That one becomes the record. Some "out-takes" were stolen and sold, tch tch.
(The word "revival" indicates the music, not a sex fest, as open sex with multiple partners is still a popular event for many people.)
