Im trying to find out information on a family heirloom. It is a Scrimshaw Powderhorn we are told dates to around the French and Indian war. I am trying to get more information on its scrimshaw work and about the powder horn in general. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Usually there's a program on PBS called ' Antiques Roadshow '. You may want to check the listing or contact the production agency for specifics who'll probably give you a list on the numerous featured appraisers. They're quite knowledgeable especially in Americana.

Too, you may wish to contact magazines or institute a search string. ' Black Powder Shooter ' or muzzle loaders may lead you in any number of directions successively refining your search. If it's an era piece it's historical value may be higher than the monetary value. Hope this helps.

Try some magazines or websites on old weapons, ancient guns and other word combinations

This site might be a good start:

http://www.armoury.com/

Also historic websites that talk about the battles or museum sites.
