So, here are the details! I'm a lesbian, and my girlfriend is transgendered. I love her so much, and I do my best to keep her happy and support her in times of trouble, but sometimes I wonder if it's adequate - After all, sometimes it seems like she's gone through so much stuff (transitioning, etc) that I can't even begin to relate to, and no matter how hard I try, I feel like I'll never be able to totally understand her because our life experiences have been so different. She says she's happy with me, but I still think I could do better.

So, how can I be a better girlfriend to her? If there are any transgendered folks reading this right now, their input would be greatly appreciated, but anyone else is welcome to comment! :) Thanks so much!

I think you sound like the perfect girlfriend as it is, it seems to me like you could not be doing more, the world would be a better place if there were more people as understanding and loyal as you. I commend you for your actions and your willingness to learn and do more for your partner. I hope someday I can find someone as good as you, although I don't struggle like your girlfriend, I have no desire to become transgendered. Keep it up, much love and respect,

Pazma

I'm a gay male with a MTF best friend. She can't have the operation due to her physical health and it isn't easy for her to take. I've known her for almost 5 years, and I, like you don't fully understand her feelings either, but I just look at her as one terrific person and try to understand and care for her as much as I can. She's had a childhood that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, but she still has an outlook on life that is always positive.

I think that you should just be next to her and support her also express to her how you feel and then maybe she will come up with someway for you to feel less inadequate.
