my son is a very big boy, His wieght and height are that of a 12-18 months old baby, but he is only 8 momths. The doctors keep telling me that he is close to becoming obese, and they look at me like I am the one that is trying to make him fat. I just want to know if he will be fat later because he's a chubby baby.

I was breasting feeding him til he was three months. Now he is formula feed and olny has 4-5 bottles(6oz) and he only eats baby food (veggie's and fruit) and baby rice cereal.

I think doctors are just being precautious because they are the ones looking "bad" cuz there are so many obese children out there. I do not think it is a problem, most kids will lose ALL of that well ok most of it once they start walking. Trust me, then you are gonna wish they had stayed chubby and cute..and not terrible and two! LOL ...But yeah a doctor got upset with me cuz my nephew is overweight by quiet a bit...but its hard with him he is bipolar ...but just take it day by day and do what you have to...If you give him a lot of unhealthy snacks then try to give him the gerber snacks...try to not give him as many solids and keep him on the gerber foods they are more nutrious...

good luck and dont sweat it ...ur a great mother!

Babies are supposed to be chunky. Both my boys were large from birth (8 lb. 4 oz. and 8 lb. 11 oz.) and were little chunks when they were infants. Usually wore a size (sometimes two!) bigger than what they were supposed to. They were both in the 90 - 95 percentile for everything. Their pediatrician said not to worry...they were just big, healthy boys. Once they started moving, the weight seemed to fall off of them. Now I can't get either one of them to stop...always on the go go go, and they've both thinned out nicely.

It's impossible for an infant to be obese. Now, if you have a 3 year old who has a gut on him (I actually saw a boy like this at the pool the other day.) THAT is a problem. It really all depends on genetics, and what you feed them when they're old enough for "adult" food.

No it doesn't. My sister was a best friend was as fat as a butter ball when she was lil but she look anorexic now, lol. When they are little babies, they cant move that much to burn off the fat. Wait till they get active. What is fat to you? Are you sure the baby is fat? My daughter is a big baby and I think she will do just fine when she starts to walk and run instead of eat all day. You know? So dont worry bout what noone say, cause you are doin jus fine.

According to medicine, the number of fat cells in the body that are formed by the time a child is 2 years of age determine the likelihood of heavy weight problem in adulthood.

Please do your kid a lifelong favor, learn the balanced diet he needs, and no matter how he fusses, do not feed him more than necessary. It sounds like you might be feeding him to pacify him even when he does not need food. Ask your doctors for a food plan to give your son a foundation for healthy eating habits in the years to come. It may be very difficult work, but it will certainly save him and you heartbreak later in life.

He is at a greatly increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity as he gets older, etc. At 8 months old, it is hard for him to exercise, but you can help him by playing on the floor with him, taking him swimming, encouraging him to crawl or roll.
Not that I'm suggesting anything, but my brother had a similar problem until my mother( who has a university education) noticed that she had not been diluting the formula properly.
Don't let anyone, doctors included, make you feel guilty. Just be sure you take steps to correct the problem now.

Anything is possible, but it is not set in stone.

Your son might just be a big baby. I have seen some rather large babies grow to be normal or slender adults. Everyone grows at different rates. But the fact that his height and weight are consistant tells me that he is just growing fast right now. I think he will be fine. Just don't push the food too much . . .

They're wrong...he'll be fine. He's a baby, not much or any movement at that age. Once he starts walking and getting into things the will shed away. Trust me...I had the same issues with my girls. One is now 5 and the other is 4 and they are perfect height and weight proportioned. All kids are different. He'll be fine.

Doesnt mean that at all. Not at this early of age. Once he starts walking and running all over the place he will ware some of that baby fat off. But once he is walking make sure he has plenty of activities to do that arent just sitting around. Once he hits ages 2-3 then I would worry about his weight, and seeking some ehlp from your doctor on things to do.

Im not sure---but I have heard that if they are very very overweight it only gets worse as they get older. but I was a very chubby baby and when I turned like 8 I started loosing all the weight---So I guess its different on all persons. Also my baby brother weighed 12 pounds when he was born and was big all along until he reached 13 he started loosing all his weight.

It's very possible. Seems to me like he has a slow metabolism which is why he is heavier than most his age. The slower the metabolism the less fat your body is able to burn naturally. Try getting him involved in some sort of exercise or activities that involve alot of movement to get his metabolism up.
