well, there are many things you can do at home that maybe not physically engaging but mentally engaging.
First you can always read a book. The new and popular novels like Da Vinci Code, Timeline, etc (I didn't mention these books because they are also movies, but because they are better book and the movie only captured little spirit of the original book). I can assure you that once you start reading, you are not going to put the book down unless you finished it. If you want highly intellectual books, try some of the classical ones like Alexander Dumas's Three Musketeers or Count of Monte Cristo, Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, and if you have way too much bored time, maybe try Tolstoy's War and Peace, and etc. And here is a list for the most classical books:

Second you can surf the internet, not really randomly searching yahoo or google for random keywords, but try the Yahoo! news for story on the topic you like: politics, international, entertainment, etc, etc, etc. Maybe reading news will bore you in the begining, but if you keep up with the current event, you will get engaged to find out how things are moving in the world like how will the fighting between Isreal and Lebanon will end.
Last but not least, you can watch TV or movies. I don't mean for you to flip channels for the entire day. You can go to the library to get a entire series of TV show: 24, Desperate Housewives, HBO's TV series, etc. They are long and doing very good job at building suspense and capturing you attention.

For me, I like to read when I have nothing to do. Don't think that I am a nerd because I am not. I never finished a book (unless it is a school requirement) before this summer. And after I really forced myself to reading this summer, I find out that it is not as bad as I thought, and it is a good time killer. (few chapter of reading and 2 to 3 hour is gone. very good deal for me) Try it!

go to the mall and window shop. Hang out with a friend, eat some cold stone ice cream, go to the ice skating rink. Watch a movie at the theatre.

Try reading a book. I recommend Dr. Seuss for you, with your obvious skill level in the English language.

But seriously, read a book.
