Take your pick, but it really is apples and oranges.
Here's a good starting list:

Richard Petty
Cale Yarborough
David Pearson
Fireball Roberts
Jr. Johnson
Dale Sr.
Jeff Gordon
Tim Flock
Wendell Scott
Buck Baker
Lee Petty
Darrell Waltrip
Bill Elliot
Ned Jarrett
Curtis Turner
Bobby Allison

The list can go on and on. Some drivers only got to race a few years, others ran limited schedules, some ran sub-par equipment. Take your pick.

There is no way to compare current drivers with drivers from several generations past. The race has changed so much over the years. The tracks have been improved, the cars are state-of-the-art, the drivers spend years learning to drive, they have equipment drivers in the past couldn't have dreamed about. I think you almost have to break it down into 2 or more eras.

It's kind of hard to pick one person over another, but statistically speaking David Pearson has the best win/start ratio. I would definitely put Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr, and David Pearson as the top three. You can argue all day about who is the best.

That's a hard one, none of the active drivers would qualify as of yet but there are a few that might in a few years. I liked Davey Allison and he would have been a huge superstar had he lived.

I would say Cale Yarborough, Dale, Sr. or Richard Petty.
