i recently had two african cichlids in there. one was very territorial (kinda looked like a EBJD), i'm guessing he killed the other cichlid. then this wknd, my boyfriend unplugged the surge strip (thinking of conserving energy and forgot that we switched the aquarium plug to that strip!!!) connected to the tank and the 2nd cichlid passed, but the pleco survive (yay!). i would like to add one or two more fish in the tank if possible... any suggestions? (and yes, i am plugging the aquarium into a separate outlet)

UPDATE: i bought 2 neons and 2 other small fish (forgot the type - small like neons, red noses, grey in color with black & water polka dotted tails). they all seem happy. i'll definitely take note on the tank size upgrade. i should probably ask this next question separately, but does anyone know the lifespan for plecos?
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR RESPONSES :-)

watch out your pleco will soon be too big for your tank they can reach 1-2 feet in length! He is probably already to big for it and will soon get aggressive and territorial because of the lack of room. Full grown plecos need at least 55 gallons!

I'd avoid slow moving fish, but other wise have fun. Note the pleco is too large for your tank.

plecos get along with anything and i would go with a bunch of neon tetras or some congo tetras. even other bottom feeders get along with them as long as there is enough food. hope that helps.

Happy Questioning!

Your tank was way overcrowded. one inch of fish for every gallon. Get two or three neons and give them some space.

the pleco are compatible with most other fish as they are algae eaters.they will fight their own kind yet live well with mollys, guppies, neons, and many others.

Get some more chichlids, if you know how to take care of them already. Chichlids are very beautiful fish.
