I live in California and we are in a stage 2 emergency right now. If we reach stage 3 we will start experiencing rolling blackouts...and I really don't want that.

I have my AC on 78 with the "engergy saver" feature turned on, and a fan running. Are there any other little things I could be doing to conserve energy?

Well, actually, running the air conditioning takes a lot of electricity. If you really don't want rolling blackouts, don't use the AC at all. Instead of the AC, use just the fan. Get a washcloth wet and wring it out and drape it across the nape of your neck. Wear cotton seersucker or lightweight cotton shirts instead of T-shirts. Drink plenty of water. Keep a terrycloth towel handy and put your bare feet into a dishpan with an inch of lukewarm water in it as you do some sit-down work or watch TV (better yet, read a book). Instead of a shower, if you have an electric water heater, wipe the sweat off yourself with a damp washcloth and wash just your hair. I hope these things help. Good luck!

It may sound too simple. but some folks don't get it. Turn stuff off. If it is not on you are not paying for it. Now, the secret is making sure something is really off.

OK, you turned off the TV and stereo. However, are you still seeing little yellow, blue, green or red dots? How about are you seeing a digital clock? This stuff all uses electricity and costs you money. Plug all this stuff into power strips with a cut off switch and when not in use turn off the switch. Same goes for your microwave oven. You don't need to see little lights in the kitchen when you are in the living room.

Get rid of your electric alarm clocks too. Get battery powered ones. They are cheap and work fine, and use no electricity.

A great a/c saver is solar window film. It is easy to install and is available at any home center. Applied to the west and south windows of your house you can cut your a/c use by 40% or more.

Just remember the big secret is: IF IT'S NOT ON YOU DON'T PAY FOR IT.

workstation desktops and followers do no longer use various capability whilst in comparison with the oven, microwave, AC, and dishwasher. We end using the dishwasher. replace your AC filter out each and each month...the leasing place of work could grant them for you. we've a one mattress room. We run one fan each and every of the time, which comprise interior the mattress room at evening. The cooling consequence of the breeze helps us turn the AC thermostat up a level or 2 and nonetheless sense mushy. each and every countless months, I carry a tournament or a lit candle around the sides of each and every window and each door finding for air leaks. do this on a windy day. The flame will wiggle or bend whilst it detects an air leak. we've darkish curtains putting over those living house windows that get direct image voltaic, yet there's a sheet of white fabric on the curtain dealing with outward, which reflects the image voltaic lower back out. We went to flourescent gentle bulbs...the type that look greater like daylight hours than the grotesque bluish shade. We many times have only one small lamp lit interior the living room whilst gazing television, and various of the time, even that is became off. If we bypass away for greater effective than 4 hours, we advance the thermostat 3 or 4 degress. If conceivable, verify the temperature putting on your water heater. Nudge it down a pair of tiers, then attempt it once you bathe. shop reducing it till the water is only too cool whilst showering.

Turn off your aircondtioning occasionaly and get used to it. blackouts will become more and more frequent.
Drink plenty of water, wear a minimum of clothing. Don't move around alot. Take care of your chores at night or early morning while it is still cool. Turn off all lights and unplug any appliances you are not using. Check your house for energy leaks around windows and doors caulk if you need too.
Good luck.

Make sure all unnecessary appliances are turned off and unplugged when not in use. Hand wash your dishes but don't let the water run. Keep all lights off as much as possible.

Keep lights to a minimum (they generate heat); add shades to your windows; eat foods that require little, if any, heating; and save heat-generating things like clothes washing, drying, and dishwashing for late in the evening.
