They are fighting each other. Several different groups are taking a violent approach to any differences they might have.

Both. There is an insurgency of foriegn fighters coming across the Iranian border, but there is also those Iraqis, Sunni muslims, that are doing a lot of the terrorizing. The Sunnis were the ones in power when Saddam was head dictator, as you know. Perhaps they are afraid of retribution for all the shitty things they did to the Kurds and Shites?

Iraq is not a real country, just something Britain threw together in the early 20th century consisting of different ethnic groups that don't like each other. The only reason they weren't killing each other before was because Saddam Hussein kept everyone in line through fear and intimidation. With that gone Pandora's Box is wide open.
