They're both great for different things. A big fat blunt is a lot of fun to share with a group of people- puff puff pass. Bongs are good when there's just a few of you, and you're in no rush. The bong you can set down and relight, the blunt just kind of keeps going until it's done.

they both have their charm:
bongs filter out 60% of the harmful tar before it hits your lungs.
blunts are extremely portable, but most people i know don't like to mix tobacco with their weed, as that is a european thing and in the usa we take it straight. doobies/joints, which are just rolled in paper are pretty good but not for smoking alone, you need some friends to help or much of it will just smoke itself.
