Take for example, you drop a hammer on your foot,
I don't think the "10 second" rule would apply before
you let out a scream. Imagine that !

The 10 second rule applies as long as the person doesn't think the item is too gross to eat or use after it has been dropped.

No. Scientist have actually tested this (beleive it or not). They proved that it doesnt matter whether the food stays on the ground for a second or a minute. The same amount of bacteria gets on the food.
