After a few weeks work in England I return to Asia on my regular 12 hour flight to Tokyo. What is the most exciting book you can recommend. Nothing with too much prose etc as it is so easy to fall asleep on a long flight. There must be interest and action on every page. Any suggestions?

I recently heard Ainsley Harriot has a new book, "Barbecuing for Vegetarians". That would be a real page turner!
"The Celestine Prophesy" by James Redfield is a good read too. Have a safe flight.

Depending whether or not you're a Harry Potter fan then read the Goblet of Fire. If you're not then stay FAR AWAY! Trust me it's probably better for you.

If you're a historical nut then I'd try Uncle Tom's Cabin, it's a good book and a landmark in black history. Scratch that, it's a little boring.

Lord of the Flies is also a good book although it's a little short and depending on how fast you read then you may not want to read it although it is an awsome book.

I'm sorry but i'm in love with books for kids. I found that this one book I read called The Ear, The Eye and The Arm by Nancy Farmer was really good. It's about these Zimbabwe kids who get kidnapped and I really liked it.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X was a REALLY exciting book. I loved it a lot and learned a lot about the man and where he stood. You should really read it, no matter what country you're from.

That's all I hope you liked them!

Get yourself a collection of Sherlock Holmes stories, eg "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes"; "The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes" etc... they're short stories, but a collection will last you the flight. They're action packed, funny and quaint, and very easy to read.

I also agree with the person that suggested "The Beach" or "The Tesseract" by Alex Garland

The Righteous Men by Sam Bourne is a Summer Read on Richard and Judy and involves plenty of action. Not exactly taxing, reasonably short chapters and I am getting through it quickly.

Here is the play.com description:

This work presents a blisteringly high-concept serial killer thriller combined with delicious religious conspiracy theory from a hot new British talent. It shows two murders at opposite ends of America, one in the backstreets of New York City, the other in the backwoods of Montana. It presents a series of killings in every corner of the globe, from the crowded slums of India to the pristine beaches of Cape Town. There can't possibly be a connection. That's the instinct of Will Monroe, a young, British-born reporter for "The New York Times" - until the morning his beautiful wife Beth is kidnapped. Holding her are men who seem ready to kill without hesitation. Desperate, Will follows a trail that leads to a mysterious sect right on his own doorstep - fervent followers of one of mankind's oldest faiths. He will have to break through multiple layers of mysticism and ancient prophecy, unearthing riddles buried deep in the Bible - until he finds the secret that is said to have animated the world for thousands of years, a secret on which the fate of humanity may depend. But with more murders by the hour, and each clue wrapped in layers of code, time is running out...

I would say Midnight at the well of souls
it may sound crazy but it's about a planet with 1040 alien races each in their own bioshere. The planet also controls reality... sounds cheezy but I promise, if you even consider sci fi kinda remotely cool- you'll love it- action packed as well-promise. I can't do it justice, check it out- also has many other books in the series, but you can read this as a stand alone and be happy.

Alex Garland ("The Beach", "The Tesseract") consistantly brings the action.

"The Beach" is a million times better than the movie.
It is one of the most lean and suspenseful books I've ever read.

The chapters are all like three pages long, too...nothing but cliffhangers.

Impossible to put down.

Anything in the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffery Deaver, they are hard to put down. He is the author of the Bone Collector. The newest book to the series Cold Moon was excellent, they have so many twists and turns, that you never see the end coming.

This one isn't action but kept me interested, quite original and never read anything like it before "Jonathon Strange and Mr.Norrell". Big book would probably do you at last 4 twelve hour flights....I really enjoyed it.
