firstly make sure you have the lastest codec's from microsoft

thn got the device manager - right click on my computer then properties > click on hardware > then device manager

click the plus next to the ide ata/atapi controllers > double click in the first pirmary channel > then click on adavance > make sure each transfer mode is set to dma if available

see if this works

if not do this if you are running windows xp

in the device manager > click on the plus next to the cd/dvd rom drives > right click on your drive then uninstall

now go back to the ide ata /atapti controllers and right click on the one that says controllers and uninstall > click ok on the warning and now restart > wait for the computer to restart and find new hardware then the conputer will want to restart again - restart and then test the dvd - I Expect this will work

Come back if this doesn't work

Make sure the Digital Audio cable from the DVD to the Sound card is installed. That would be why everything else is working and the sound is not. Its a 4pin keyed cable that connects from the back of the DVD drive to the sound card.

I'm not familiar with "Powerplay" DVD software but it sounds as if you're having problems playing AC3 audio. Most DVDs use AC3 audio. If your computer or software doesn't have the AC3 decoder, you will get video but not audio. Below is a link to a free AC3 decoder.

sounds like you are missing some sound drivers. Go to My Computer, click on Control Panel, Double click System, then hardware ... under device manager, click on sound, video, game controllers ... see if any of your drivers have errors listed. Try updating your drivers.
