no you do not have to tape the joints behind the shower walls.but i would just to get the practice.as for the other joints, web taping works best.add some joint compound, then tape.useing 6 in. putty knife smooth tape, removing excess compound when dry ,sand, then add 2nd coat of compound with 8" blade, dry, sand, and repeat with a 12" blade.it takes a while to get it down, but what better wayu to learn then to get your hands dirty.youll do fine. good luck

p.s.
there is a certain sand paper that u use for compound.just ask at you local hardware store.

Tape it to be safe. It's easy. Get some tape and "mud" from your home improvement store. Use something (trowel) to smooth the mud down the seam to act as a "glue". Then hold one end of the tape and trowel another swipe of mud over the tape as you put it over the seam. Doesn't need to be that perfect. Good Luck

Yes, you need to cement the seams so get the tape and cement you will need from the diy store along with a trowel to apply it. If you do a neat job you won't have to sand it. I would also Prime the walls with mildew resitant primer.

Tape the seams only if you don't want spiders and bugs that hide in the wall joining you in the shower. After the splash pan goes up, I doubt the building inspector will catch it.

To tape or not to tape, this is the question.

no it isn't really that way.
all you have to do is consult a plumber to do the installation work.
