Are u stuck, in not giving others a chance because I think that anyone that claims to be racist are giving up and are taking baby steps. They pre-judge and stereotype on certain races I am black and white and if you hate me oh well I want you to know that we aren't all crazy and rude just like anybody else some are some aren't and I think you need a reality check thanks bye!!

No matter where you go, racism is everywhere. Racism was in Cali just as it is in Virginia. Apparently, you did have racist qualities in you to become racist. Being racist is associated with hate. Why would you hate a group of people, assuming that you had a bad experience with a few. WHAT IF YOU HAD A BLACK BEST FRIEND? WOULD YOU SUDDENLY HATE HIM JUST BECAUSE OF THE AREA YOU LIVE IN? Sounds a little bit unreasonable, don't you think?

Some people are afraid of new things and that means new people they dont understand or even want to. i think that different parts of the state are more racist than others. One lack of education another is not socializing with other races. Here is sacramento, california it is great we have many different kinds of people and what is so interesting is everyone has a story and a history and it is fun and exciting to learn about other people. I am glad that I have worked and studied, partied, and even danced with other races. California would not be the same if we did not have a culture that respected other cultures.

Areas that aren't very diverse have a very different idea of what racism is. I come from a town of 5,000 people, mostly Italians. Their way of dispelling their racist nature is to preface racist rhetoric with, "I'm not being racist, but..."
San Francisco, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. It's a very diverse, politically correct area where the above example would not go over well.

Yes, if you are racist, then you are a bad person.
And I also think it is different in every state. I grew up in Oregon and hardly ever saw racism, but I moved to Mississippi when I was 18, and that was like a whole other world. They were much more racist there.

I moved from California to the east coast and it is very different here in the way races congregate and behave. IT's more of an observation, rather than feeling like a racist. I still believe everyone deserves to be jusdged upon their individual behavior and attitude. I am not far from your region either.

DEFINITELY, it varies! I'm from the great state of Texas and it's an everyday topic here. A while back, I breifly attended a school in Vermont....wow, what a culture shock. When it came time to do our term papers, everyone wanted to talk about trees, vegetarianism, and the environment...when I talked about race, culture, and politics, they looked as though I spoke gibberish. Not to mention, I rarely ever saw another person of color anywhere....guess they can't help it. Many from areas like that are never exposed to people different from them.

I was raised in California and know what you mean.
In Fresno we never thought about race and our neighbors could be black or from the middle east or Mexican. Never thought about it. Moved to Oklahoma and all the sudden thats a black area. Can't live out there. Why? Just can't thats why!
There is little towns with black people and little towns with White people. Well us and a bunch of other whites moved out here and have black neighbors and we get alone just fine.
Kids all go to school together and have made friends.
didn't want my kids to grow up racist. But now they fit in better with the black community. My blonde really stands out on the playground.

None of us know what you have been through but a lot of racist people turn non racists into what you just said. I totally understand what private battles in a life war situation do to change a person. You have to adapt to your invironment in one way or another. but do not confuse it with personal preference.or an awakening of the realities of the real world. find a way to move to an area you are comfortable with. Life is short.
