The baby can't feel the cord being cut and neither can the mother.

The cord contains one or two major veins, buried within Wharton's jelly, for the exchange of nutrient- and oxygen-rich blood between the embryo and placenta. The umbilical cord is made of Wharton's jelly, not ordinary skin and connective tissue. There are no nerves, so cutting it is not painful. There is ordinarily no significant loss of either infant or maternal blood while cutting the cord.

It's best to ask your caregiver to delay cutting the cord until it stops pulsating so that the baby can get more of that blood into his body.

NO. The baby does not feel any pain when it is cut. I've given birth 5 times, and not a baby cried because of that.

Since there is no way to avoid cutting it, short of allowing the child to drag the afterbirth around with it until Middle School, why worry about it? Besides, do you remember *yours* being cut?

Apparently NO because if they did doctors would not cut them,

Watch Discovery Health or The Learning Channel, you will be amazed at what you can learn on those channels.
