Can someone please tell me about Video Multiplexing in C/C++?

Question

I am planning to do a project on Real-time Video Multiplexing for my Final Year of Software Engineering BSc Degree.
I want to know as much information/link as possible and also some help on how to read/write mpeg or avi files using c/c++ or any other suitable language.

You need at least some MPEG standard, e.g.
"ITU-T Recommendation H.222.0" document.
Note that stream processing is described in "C" structures in this document.
