well my birthday is in september and my boyfriend all ready knows what he wants to get me but the thing is i know what it is and i dont want it. i feel bad bc i know he really wants to get it for me. (its a gold chain for his class ring that is around my neck. right now it is on a silver chain) but the thing is i am happy with this chain bc it is the one he gave to me when he gave me his ring.so again my question is how do i tell my boyfriend to get me something else with out hurting his feelings? i dont want to upset him but i dont want a new chain i want mine. help please!!!!!

I think that you should just tell him straight up. Just the way you told us, why is it so hard to be honest. Just try and I bet you find he will love you more for that.

Let him get you the chain. Don't hurt his feelings when he's trying to do a very thoughtful thing for you. There will be plenty of other birthday presents for you. Don't be so petty and small as to make a big issue over this. It'll hurt your relationship.

Without even bothering to read your details, you need to realize that any acknowledgement of your birthday is an act of courtesy,love, and generosity. It does not matter what he gets you, you should be thrilled that he even remembers (which, by the sound of things, you are going to make very easy). The fact that you want him to buy you something specific is self-centered. I know we all want what we want but out of respect for your boyfriend (and yourself) you should quietly and gratefully thank him for anything he gets you- as well as any "Happy Birthdays" he gives you. Be direct with him. I have been with my husband for 10 years and got some pretty lame stuff I never used or liked.He used to get upset when I didn't use the stuff he gave me. I finally just told him what I want and know we are both happy.

I'd say something casually like, "I love this chain" about the one on your neck and let him know it has more sentimental value than any other piece of jewelry you own. Hope that helps!
