Sometimes I can only read mail but lose connection before I can reply. I used to play literati but cant stay on line long enough. Bizzarley, Ive been on Yahoo answers for an hour now BUT everything else just loses connection with the server. This happened to me about 2 months ago and I got a new modem. Have cleaned up PC and reinstalled Windows, done virus scan etc. Any clues what is going on?

It is DSL. I have tried resetting the modem and sometimes it works for a while.

Are you in the UK, using a BT line (or a BT-installed line unbundles to someone else)?
If so, its because BT have added new hardware and software to their exchanges to provide faster "Max" broadband services (the "up to 8Meg" services everyone's advertising), but the system is having some teething problems. Its affecting many people. BT is supposedly working on it.

in case you truly did have broadband internet, you should'nt choose a dial tone and a telephone line. Broadband is provided in by the cable line. No phones traces are in any respect in contact. if you're linked by the phone traces, and that's the issue, you've a situation with it because you've call waiting or perhaps as someone calls you once you're on-line, the incoming call kicks you off line. There are settings you could pass into to fix that so that you aren't to any extent further getting kicked off internet each and every time any call is provided in. Broadband isn't dial up, that is a cable linked internet hookup. you want to make certain which one you truly have. it is not any longer conceivable to have the severe % broadband internet by the phone traces.

What kind of connection do you have? If it's DSL, then try resetting the modem. If it's cable, unplug the cable out of the modem, wait a minute, and then plug it back in.
