100% true - Elvis basically brought black music to white people and did it with flair, style and a magical voice.

I really don't think that if it weren't for Elvis the Beatles would not be around. The Beatles were influenced by Elvis, as well as many other American musicians of the 50's and 60's. But they stated in countless interviews that they had wanted to sound like an American "Doo Wop" group - they loved that type of music. Elvis hardly sounded anything like that.
Elvis was a great influence on Rock and Roll - no doubt about that. But I think that at that moment, music had to change. If it wasn't Elvis making that change, we would be speaking about another "King of Rock and Roll". It's called evolution.

Everyone makes a difference. Without Elvis music might have taken a different direction, but you could say the same about anyone from Bach to the Beatles.

No - The Beatles (or rather John) said as much but I don`t think he influenced music as much as that.Maybe without him Rock `N` Roll would have lasted longer ,taken a different turn earlier but ..
Anyway The Beatles as a band were more influenced by Carl Perkins and Chuck Berry than Elvis.

Every act (singer or band) that music plays a part in shaping music as a whole. With any one piece gone....our music wouldn't sound the same. Oh sure, some have a bigger influence than others, but ultimately, anyone who is heard on radio or albums has an effect on music as we know it. Every star has influences they listen to and it helps shape their unique sound... so basically they are ALL connected. So yes, without Elvis, being that he influenced a TON of singers, our music would not be the same.

In every generation there should be a leader of youth music culture. Elvis was the one for his time but before him and after him have emerged similar stars. His was such a universal impact that he is viewed as pivotal in his influence. But you must also add in people before him - Johnny Ray - Bing Crosby - Frank Sinatra.
Those who emerged with him - Little Richard - Buddy Holly - Chuck Berry - Jerry lee Lewis etc . .
Those who have come along after him - The Beatles - The Stones - The Beach Boys - The Motown Stars . . .
And the current ones - such as - err - no wait I'll think of someone - Eminem - Maria Thingy - Well I guess I will leave it to you for todays candidates.

Elvis was a great PERFORMER with nothing to say.
Buddy Holly was the inspiration for the Beatles along with Chuck Berry.
Little Richard is in there too, all three being writers as well as musicians.
Everybody in rock has borrowed from some or all of these people.

I think we have Chuck Berry to thank for the sound of r&r. It took white boys to make the music socially acceptable to caucasians.
