Obviously, the egg came first. Long before there were any chickens, there were plenty of eggs around, laid by reptiles of course. It is hard to determine the precise moment when reptiles ceased being reptiles and became birds, but the fossil Archeopterix is basically a theropod dinosaur with wings and feathers, so this comes fairly close.

Which came first - the chicken or the egg? "The chicken" came first - in the sentence of the question. If the question is phrased differently, the answer is different.

God created all things as adults.
Evolution says all things are created by a mutation.

So if you believe in God then the chicken came first.
If you believein Evolution then the egg was first chicken (its parents werent yet chickens)
