That hermit crab was wild because ALL land hermit crabs are wild. It had a pinted shell because it was a pet.. but it is still wild, land hermits are not domesticated creatures, but exotic willd crustaceans. They are not bred or farmed in captivity, it is impossible, they are harvested from their wild homes on beaches in the carribean to africa and then forced into painted shells and sold at pet stores.

I found a tortoise in my front yard. I'm not sure how she got in. We have 8" walls all the way around with a electric fence on top. A electric slide gate that is to close to the ground for her to crawl under. So I am stumped. She has been here for about 4 years now. Its winter so she is hibernating in a small cave we built for her.

I once found a mouse in a pitcher full of water. It was very young, and not swimming so well. He had apparently fallen out of a hole in the celing. He did survive his adventure to be released into the (kinda) wilderness. So I guess he wasn't really a pet.

I don't think it was a pet, but I found a beautiful robin with a red breast dangling from a very fine thread in my front yard. I wondered how it managed to get its head into such a small noose. I found it too late.

years ago we lost our pet hampster. Looked all over our house for over two weeks. We finaly gave up and was throwing out all his leave behinds so to speak. When we picked up his box of food it moved in our hand. So we carefully checked it out. And there he was, down in that little box peeking out at us. I guess he'd gotten stuck in there one night while trying to go venturing!
