It does stick to the inside of the container.
But then glue does not stick to glue, inside the stuck container glue.

Depending on the type of adhesive, it may depend on exposure to air to harden. Glues usually harden by releasing volatile elements into the air. In a glue tube, the empty air is filled with the volatiles, and so there is no "room" to release sufficient volatiles to harden the glue. However, it is not unknown for old tubes of glue to harden. This is due from air leakage of the packaging the glue is in.
In the case of two-part epoxies, unless the resin and hardener mix, it's not glue, so it won't harden in the dispenser.

Because it needs air to bond. Leave the lid off a pot of glue and it will probably harden overnight. Good question though, I only found the answer out recently.

most glues harden when they come in contact with air. which is why you're supposed to keep the glue container closed when you're not using it.

Because it only stays stuck once it's dry, and it needs air to dry, and there's not that much air inside the bottle.
