I only have to fill up my Chevy Cavalier about once a month. I know it gets fantastic mileage but when anybody asks how much, I do not know.

take your odometer reading when you fill up. the next time you fill up take another reading. subtract the 2 and divide the gallons needed to fillup . IE: 87000. fill. 87200 fill took 10 gal. 10 into 200= 20 mpg

You divide the miles by the gallons it takes to fill up your car. So fill the tank all the way up and record the miles on your car. Drive till it's empty. Record the miles again and subtract the 2 so you know how many miles you drove and divide by the amount of gas (in gallons) it took to fill up your tank from when you started your miles per gallon test.

Next time you fill up your gas tank set your trip odometer to 0. Then the next time you fill up the gas tank take the miles on your trip odometer and divide them by the gallons of gas it took to fill up your tank. That will give you the miles per gallon!

Divide the number of gallons used by the miles driven on that amount of gas.

for starters, you set the tripe meter at zero when you have just filled the tank to full. then when the tank reaches empty, you divide the number of miles driven my the size of your gas tank(im gonna guess that yours is around 12.)
