From Old French chevalerie? Meaning skilled horsemanship? Or the Chivalric Ideal: The medieval system, principles, and customs of knighthood. The qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women.

A manifestation of any of these qualities is the chivalric ideal. I think the world would be a better place if we, as men, practiced the chivalric ideal...

Tragically, most men have no concept of chivalry. In fact, if you ask them about it, most men think chivalry is some kind of fabric.

I would, too. I can't stand it when women play the damsel in distress, but I don't think it would hurt to bring back a little chivalry.
