WWIII does not have to have any similarities to world wars I or II.
I have to agree with Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich on this one!
Look at what is going on around the world. The US is active militarily in both Iraq and Afghanistan fighting terrorists.
Israel is fighting terrorists in Lebanon.
Canada recently intercepted several terrorist plots.
Each day there are bombings all over the middle east and indonesia as well.
Iran is building nuclear weapons.
North Korea is openly flaunting its ability to deliver weapons balistically.
WWIII is already happening, fighting terrorists around the globe--it just hasn't been termed that yet. But it is a global conflict nonetheless, involving nearly every government around the world in some way or another.
Don't think that just because WWII was worse than the first that WWIII has to be the worst yet, or that it has to be a nuclear war. It is what it is: a conflict taking place on a global scale, and thats whats happening.

I could not say for sure, but I think we could be on the brink of a third world war. It does not make sense to anyone thinking in the real world and in forward motion. The previous two world wars and the events that provoked them did not seem to make sense to a lot of people either. However, many politicians seem to have dues to pay to their source of power and/or to the System that put them in their positions of great advantage.
The Dada movement that sprang up after World War I was called 'The Cult of Absurdity'. It cultivated absurdity along the reasoning that rational man has brought the world into war and destruction; therefore, why not cultivate nonsense?
You might wish to click onto my name and my question about the possible merits of keeping a roster of geniuses to help out with world crises. What advantages are there to the atomic bomb?

I think the only way we could be sent into World War III is if Israel expands their war beyond lebanon into Iran, North Korea goes ballistic and attacks someone, and if China decides it really wants Taiwan. Oh, and if India/Pakistan start launching nukes. Anything short won't spark a global war.

World war 3 is not Israel vs lebanon. World war 3 is what the Islamo facists have been doing for decades now. They are attacking almost the entire world, if you look at it. Look at what they are doing in Africa? Look at what they did in Indonesia? Look at what they are doing in India? London? USA? Russia? Spain? France? Yes its a world war alright, but it started long ago and has continued on in the form of Islamic terrorism.

No. Read the events that transpired with WW1 and 2 and you will see that there are no similarities.
