This issue of the half empty\full , is a misleading concept , a tactical question that intends to force the audience into a precise way of thinking. (positive vs negative is the matter.)
It s basically dishonest.
The tank is always half empty :
Filling up has a cost (be it a tank,a glass of wine etc, be that cost money or else) By paying this cost you deprive yrself of the possibility to use its worth for else. So, in the very moment that you consider the question, you already 'regret' that the tank is NOT 100% FULL . What makes you considering it half full, is a sort of self consolation..(***: let s think positive..) or the use of will power.
If gas was for free our tank would be full most of the times ,indeed....and -or the problem non existing.
I am a walking dog.
got no tank. (hehe)

I was once driving home from out of town on a half full tank of gasoline when I ran out. The half gasoline tankful had drained so that it was displaced with fumes and hazardous gases, so that my former half full tank was now an empty half tank. In response to your question, at that time it was a double half empty gas tank. After reaching a gas station, I finally filled it and resumed my way with a double half tankful of gasoline.

Half-full, I haven't filled up my tank since sometime in March. Can't afford to plus twenty bucks a week gets me where I need to go. I ain't gonna spend all the money I have on gas just because I think I need to go somewhere.

one million/4 of a tank, and my tank ought to correctly be 1/2 finished once a week. i have not considered an finished tank in soo lengthy to the point i'd bypass out on each occasion I see it lower back. gas is soo extreme those days. If it ever reaches $5 i will make investments in a motorbike.

There has been research on this.
If you just fully filled it and see that half the gas is gone, you will probably call it half empty.
If your tank is empty and you fill it half, you will probably call it half full.
Believe it or not. Was published in "Psychological Science" 2 years ago.

Depends on money and where you are going.
Going down the street for groceries it is half full. Headed on a long trip it is half empty.
Only have $20.00 in your pocket for the next two weeks. It is half empty.
Always have $1,000 in your pocket. Half full, if you care at all.
