Mine is TERIFIED of the vacuum, I think she was about year old. She is now 18 months old. When it is time for the vacuum to come on I have to sit down with her on the floor and hold her while daddy vacuums. Nothing else works, we have tried doing it while she was asleep (she wakes up) and today we tried doing it while she was taking a bath (she wanted OUT). And ONLY mommy can hold her, daddy doesn't. I tried giving her to him and starting to vacuum, she was SCREAMING!

I thought baby thought they were fun, get on an ride. OH NO! NOT MINE! She is scared and crying real tears as soon as it is pulled out!

MOMMY TO THE RESCUE!!!!!

I think it was around 5-6 months for my daughter. She is now 10 months and hates the coffee grinder and the vacuum. I hold her when I start to vacuum and then put her down but she does not look happy so I just say "It's ok, Mommy's cleaning the house". She has to and will get used to the noise.

Some babies like the noise of the vacuum. My son was never afraid of it..he'll be 4 soon. Be glad she doesn't freak out at the site or sound of it.

My older son became terrified of it when he was about 15 or 16 months old. My younger son (12 months now) is still fascinated with it. Every time I vacuum, I have to put him in his crib because he'll chase me around and unplug it!

My son loves vacuums. He actually was obsessed with them for a while. He loves anything mechanical. Knew more about them than any kid I know (and I had to learn more about them than I ever thought I would just to keep up with him).

Why do you want (or expect) your baby to be affraid of vacuums?

hmmm. my son actually was never afraid of the vacuum. Infact now that he is 2 1/2 years old he runs it hiimself and loves to vacuum. When he was younger I bought him a lil battery operated vacuum.

If your baby is afraid of the vaccumm she should get over it.

keep the vacum out while not in use. leave it where yr baby plays this will give her the opportunity to handle it and see that it wont harm her. its quite natural for the baby to be scared there hearing is very sensitive try to do yr vacuming when she is not around for a while until yr baby is alittle older. this article has more on new born and baby needs

The white noise is a joy to infants. It can even put them to sleep. When they are older, walking around, that's when the big bad beast will start to scare them. Mine was just shy of two when she freaked for the first time.

mine is a yr old and he still laughs at it, used too when he was just a few months old, running the vacuum was the only thing that would put him to sleep. now he just hobbles after it and throws toys at it.
