I believe that if someone tells you something enough, then that's what your self-image will become and that's what you think of yourself. Daily affirmations work wonderful to counteract negative self-images.

I believe you have a point re: what others say...it works that way for many, especially those with low self image hearing negative comments...it's odd that a lot of people are more quick to believe something negative said about them, than something positive...

A lot because in peoples' eyes, you are different. It's true, what happens if everyone kept telling you different things, will you have a strong self-image? No, because all the opinions you get will be scattered. Of course daily affirmations work wonderful to counteract negative self-images, but the thing is, the daily affirmations should all be common. Then, will they counteract negative self-images. It's true, if the majority of your friends say you're hot, then you must be hot. That's when people start being so ostentatious. Hence, egostistical and flaunting people. That's my interpretation.

I agree with you on that!....Alot of times people will tell us things about ourselves that we didn't know, and it's up to us to let that change how we feel and think about our self-image(rather it's negative or positive feed back). Affirmations do work wonders and if you add I can, I will and words that are positive, you will be able to feel more confidence towards one self...Remember we have to erase negative words from our vocabulary and replace them with positive ones....I know I struggled with that for alot of years, I have dyslexia, ADHD and severe depression. If we look in the mirrow and say to ourselves(in an assertive manner) I'M INTELLIGENT, SMART, HANDSOME or PRETTY, etc It will take you along way.

I struggle with poor self esteem that came from being told that I was not worthy. We do start believing what we hear to a degree and its up to us to turn those words around, though its hard. Have you read the book The Four Agreements? It talks about this in detail.

0% - I promised myself that I'd never take anything someone said to heart. That's sad when people are made of of what other people want them to be. And you're absolutely right when you say...if you hear it enough you believe it. Perfect example of what happened in child abuse!

You are not your mind,
it is just a tool.
Therefor if somebody tells something about you, it is there mind making an opinion. Doesn´t mean they are that opinion. just that their mind controls their life.
don´t let it control you, control it.
