Being Miss univers opens alot of doors. These girls maybe appears as just another beautiful girl but I think there alot more than beauty.
They need to have a very nice personality and be an excellent outspoken person. Not everyone can reach these criterias.
My only problem with this kind of contest is the swimsuit competition. I can't figure out why they still do it. No need to wear a bikini to show your personality.

Not necessary, but mindless entertainment created to to sell advertising time. Even so, "Miss Earth" would be a lot more accurate than "Miss Universe." How arrogant!

I'm sure it's not necessary but I do enjoy watching the Miss Universe Pageant with my daughters like I watched with my mom.

What a great question. Being a costumer, I've been asked to help design and alter dresses for girls in beauty pageants. I always refer them to other seamstresses because I just can't be a part of something so superficial. If they were sincere, why do only pretty girls get to be in the contest? Why not take the millions of dollars spent on gowns and hair products and buy food for the starving kids that live in their countries?

Oh I dont know where the world would be if we didnt have all those 'miss universes' who care so much for humanity that they end up rest of their lives endorsing animal tested beauty products.
