Best bet, don't wait. Keep looking for other jobs, that way, if it doesn't work out you haven't lost any time. Besides, you might find something better. If you haven't heard anything after a week, it's a good idea to call and see how things are going. Lots of times applications will sit for months before anybody looks at them. If you want an interview, it's best to actually ask for the manager. If they aren't there, ask when they're expected. That way you can wriggle yourself into an interview even if they haven't seen your application yet!

Well, from management's perspective, I can tell you that just by examining an application I can tell whether or not they may or may not be the best candidate for a job with my company. Typically, I have to wait a few days before calling the individual forr an interview because my company requires background checks done on applicants. I always find it awkward when I get a phone call from somebody who applies about a month ago, and they didn't even come close to getting the job.

If you had an interview, I would wait about 3-4 days afterwards, and if you still haven't gotten a phone call to say you've gotten the job, then give them a call.

Another piece of advice: If you have a friend working somewhere and they want you to get a job there too. By putting down that person as a reference for the job, you better make sure that the person you are putting as a reference is a good employee to begin with.

Good Luck in finding a job!

3 or 4 business days.
You should not call and see if you got the job, however, but if you got the interview. Rarely do you get a job just by filling out an application in this day and age.

The best thing to ask is, "What is my status?" In this way they will tell you if you are still being considered, and if you will have an interview, etc.

This all depends on how you applied and if they are hiring. 1.) If they are hiring and you applied in person, dressed appropriately, handed your application to the Manager-on-Duty, and got their name and gave them yours, then I would recommend that you wait until Monday to call. 2.) If they are hiring and you applied in person, dressed inappropriately, and handed your application to the cashier at the desk without getting a name, I suggest you call today and get the name of the hiring manager, then wait until Wednesday to follow up. Remember, a manager's job includes much more than thumbing through applications and calling candidates who applied. They have more facets to their job than the hiring portion. More than likely, he/she will have several applications to go through and will get around to it when his need to fill the position and his/her time to handle this are in sync. Getting a name and connecting with the person who can make a decision about you are a good way to make an impression with a busy manager. Consider this and put in some more applications at other places you are interested in working at (Office Depot, Staples, Wal-Mart, Target, and other places with electronics departments).

I would wait a week, but also remember to send you letter thanking them for taking time to meet with you and reiterate a few of your assets and state a few reasons why you would be a perfect fit with the company and what you would bring to the table. You should send that letter no later than 2 days after your interview since it will take a day or 2 to reach them in the mail. Good luck!!

First off, ask when to expect a decision on the job. If they say you should know in a week, call in a week. If they say 3 or 4 days, call in 4 or 5 days, usually in the early to mid afternoon. It's hard to say when you should follow up. You should get that feeling from the interview, based upon when they expect to make a decision.

It really depends on what type of job you are applying for.

Have you already interviewed with them?
--If yes, then make sure you send the management a card thanking them for taking time out of their busy schedule to meet with you. Let them know in the thank-you card that you believe you would be a good match for the company and that you look forward to hearing from them soon.
--If no, then you can follow up your application after a day or two asking for the personel manager to schedule an interview with you.

Good luck!
