the reason for the universe is beyond our ability to comprehend. our own individual lives are all that we really know everything about. and from where we stand it seems we are the center of it all.
some people have it all and some people live and die horrible deaths, best thing I can come up with is that there must be a reason to this as we seem to find reasons for so many other things we see around us. perhaps there is something to
re-incarnation.....if so, and we do as best as we can perhaps we will have a better shot the next time around.
what ever the situation is though, one should always try and have hope, at least for tomorrow. there are many positive things in the world, try to think of those and if you can, try to help someone else with their problems, it helps take them off ones own.
I Wish You Good Fortune and Hope that things get better if things are troubling you.
p.s.
don't watch CNN....it's just too depressing!!!

I've heard a lot of feel-good answers to your question, but very few who try to answer your problem. I do not believe in reincarnation, nor a chaos theory.
If the universe has a nature, then Someone HAD to have created it with that nature in mind. Yes, I believe in God as the Creator. Hear me out.
IF God doesn't exist, IF He didn't create the universe - then this is all an accident and your life means nothing, fair or unfair.
BUT the fact that you are questioning the meaning of life indicates to me that there IS a point to your life, and that too would require a Creator God.
SO, if God created the universe specifically to be exactly the way it is, then He also has a plan for you. Sometimes meteors crash into planets, sometimes your life seems unfair. The truth of it is that God is directing the events in your life to bring you to the point where He can use you best to fulfill your purpose!
He is God and you are not.
He will either work through you, or around you.
Your call.
Put yourself in His hands and He will guide you though this life, and save you from hell in the next.

I shall tell the nature of the universe by way of story:
Back in 18 tricky 8 when the world police, who were known in that time as the Preachers of Gods Divine Holy Years of Yore were trying to find the man who stole the number 9. That's why we called it 18 tricky 8, because it was really 1898 but this darned theif stole the number 9!! Can you believe it? I tell you what, the first day I was told about I had 20 years old and I was in the local Choklit Shoppe and I was slowly drinking a milk shake when this pretty young lady sat beside me. She was all like, "Mmmm, that shake looks tasty. It looks so tasty that if anything that tasty entered my mouth I'd be like 'Mmm, that's tasty'." Turns out she knew how to make horses fly. Speaking of horses flying, have you ever seen a pink hippo with a huge grin, a pokadot bow-tie, a white collar, and a black bowler hat? I rode one once and I was in absolute fun...in the sun on that dark, cloudy rainy day. It was like I was back in the war of 1812 with the canadian army burning down the American White House. It was....what was I talkin' about again?

The nature of the universe is to be infinitely vast and diverse, which obviously can lead to many instances of random unfairness, which sometimes can have a seemingly very localized effect.

Matter and energy over infinite time gives rise to order from a matrix of chaos. The real question is, why on Earth (or any other place) would you think that it would, could or should be fair? I know, social conditioning says we must try to make it more fair, I'm all for that as long as it doesn't mean billions of us fairly scratching around in the dust for a living!
The guy above needs to have been born w/out a head to see the absurdity of that idea.

I've always thought of it as balance and perspective. Good & Evil, Chaos & Order, Light & Dark, Joy & Sorrow, Fair and Unfair, what are any of these things with out the other? If you had never been sad or treated unfairly how would you know you were happy or were being treated fairly?

Because it is. I believe in reincarnation and I believe every soul here on earth is here to learn something. It's going to seem unfair, but just think of what you have that someone else doesn't and how unfair that is. Like you have access to a computer and other people don't, stuff like that.

What is the nature of language? Surely it is the language of nature. Thus, in some respect we know that the nature of nature is the language of language. Life is not unfair, you just have an expectation.
