Most people are simple minded and therefore gullible. But there are many other lies that people believe in. Some things in Religion are downright lies, yet millions of people believe in it. And these people are not all American. I think it becomes easier to feed a lie if you can instill fear. That is exactly how Hitler and the Nazis fed lies to the German people, an otherwise cultured and civilized nation. They fed on the people's insecurities and fears (for the future) and told them lies to make them feel better about themselves. The Nazis did not tell the people the real problem (that they were responsible for their own problems). Instead they found scapegoats (Jews, Gypsies, Gays, etc..) for their problems. Similarly, the American people can not accept the fact that terrorists attacked us, because of American foreign policy ( that is borderline imperialistic). Instead we are fed a lie that we readily accept: that we are the good guys and the others are evil; that they hate democracy and freedom. Hitler once said, "THE BIGGER THE LIE, THE MORE PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE IT". So true. And as yet more proof to the matter, ever wonder why their has been a sudden resurgence and interest in religion and God AFTER 9/11. People are unsure of the future and feel in danger when their ordinary "safe" lives are altered or put into doubt. These same people find comfort and safety in extreme Religion or any other lie for that matter.
To HAWKEYES:
Very well put; I think it was Jefferson who wrote to Adams asking him," How can people that don't know how to write their own names, be able to vote properly??" Hence the creation of a buffer: the electoral college to guarantee that dangerous men (Hitler-like) would not come to power. Obviously, we have forgotten about the role of the electoral college, since they allowed a madman and criminal to become our President. At this juncture, the electoral college is mute and outdated. I guess we should change that famous DMV quote to," Democracy: VOTING IS NOT A RIGHT, BUT A PRIVILEGE": Just like driving a car, not everyone is capable of making responsible decisions. And in this day and age, in which the US has so much power, 100 million people are determining the fate of the World; some of which are totally ignorant to the fact that their even is a World beyond the borders of the US. Now that's SCARY>>

It is easy to lie to anyone. Getting the general public to believe the lies requires lots of repetition. Also, the schools are not teaching children to question things.
Are you suspicious of the fact that every time there is a "story" it just so happens to appear on all of the news stations at the same time?
Look at the events surrounding 911 for example. Total lie.

Poorly educated people are easy to lie to, and easy to control. Look at the "successes" of Stalin and Mao. Many Americans are poorly educated, and America will lose its place to even the present "Third World" countries if we don't start getting smarter and working harder. Many of our public schools are rotten, and just throwing money at them isn't the the answer. Education begins in the home. With a few exceptions, our better-educated and better performing citizens come from homes with two parents.

They most certainly are suckers for the quick fix and convenience! Short attention span, lazy unable to think ahead for themselves its very troubling and i did not realize how bad it was until Yahoo Answers revealed the ignorance.Makes me ashamed of many these fellow country men and some women! We are a nation of animals being fleeced and herded which no great nation would allow in a progressive society.

I feel Obama is a jerk, a light-weight, a blowhard. He hasn't performed a goddamn factor that he stated he could do. When he had a Democratic Senate and Democratic Congress, he did not do a rattling factor. It's the way in which the Chicago Democratic laptop rolls in "CrOOK County" IL

becuse most americans are ignorant lazy sheep who follow their parties to the tooth regardless of the consequences and always defend their parties even if there is nothing to defend these types of people shouldn't be allowed to vote (though there is no reasonanle way to enforce it) even our founding fathers warned of the dangers of letting the ignorant masses rule that is why they created the electoral system and that is why we have radical republics like iran or isreal.

because we're ignorant and we don't question what the government and the media tells up. we just soak it up like a sponge.
people don't read or are too busy with their lives to read and make their own decisions and think that maybe what their hearing is wrong.

I would say the public education system in America..........we teach our children to " always follow directions ".....I can still hear my old teachers saying it...........and most Americans that's all they can do is ' follow directions ', they don't think they just follow.
