Only your body dies. Your spirit and your memories and experiences continue on. After we die we also remember the memories from before we were born on this earth. What a wonderful thing to look forward to huh?

since memories are stored in chemicalls in parts of our brian when we die our body does not activly try to preserve those chemicals so the chemicals decompose into simpler chemicals.

To my knowledge, no one knows because no one has ever came back to tell us, but in some religious beliefs we take them with us into the afterlife and meet our loved ones who have gone on before us.
