People allow this to persist because each time someone commits a heinous crime they feel that more laws and increased legislation is needed for "the public good". We allow this because we think we are not capable of being self-governing individuals. People seek external authority to tell them what is acceptable and not. The individual should be self-governing and self reliant.
By allowing this, we reserve no rights. We send the message to the government that we want them to cure all our ills. The problem with this is that government is out only to protect itself. Read the Constitution, like you would for a book report. Define the characters, map the plot. What you will find is a document that preserves the rights of the government to impose on its constituants in any means necessary to ensure that the political structure stays in tact and control stays in the hands of the government. Our only answer is to push for deregulation and limit the armed and police forces to protecting the rights of the citizen. Move military and police to the private sector so we have a choice. If military company A does not perform, they get fired and company B is hired. Either produce values or you are not going to be profitable. Any company that ran billions in debt would not be hired to run your operation, yet that is what we accept from our government. Violence does not breed peace and control does not cause conformity.

I like how you talk about taserx in the United States but use statistics that include the whole world, hence Amnesty International. Also, they still handcuff just as much as they always have. Its just with tasers, the number of cops being stabbed and shot at have decreased drastically since they can taser the person before they attack. In my opinion : Injured criminal is better than a dead cop. I don't know about you though, i can only speak for myself.

And how many would have died had the officers had to use their real guns?
Come on now, they're not going to taser somebody who's just arguing with them, especially an older person. Someone has to really step over the line to warrant that. If the cop feels their life is in danger then yes, they're gonna taser the person.

I've never been tasered. Police only use them when they need to. I think it's great that police have them. They do not cause permanent damage, and they have stopped many police from having to physically detain someone.
It's better than shooting them!
Police are just trying to do thier jobs and this is a tool that helps them do it. Imagine a cop trying to arrest a 250 pound gangster that's high on PCP. He could wrestle with him, and probably get seriously injured. He could shoot him and make everyone upset. Or he could just taser them, get him safely handcuffed and everyone wins. The cop isn't injured and the suspect is safely detained.
I don't see the problem.

Because some times a bastard of society needs there a#$ woken the hell up so our fine police force can keep the peace and justice. Coroperate or get a taste of peace and justice.
In all seriousness I've heard about that and there over use of pepper spray to. Its a dangerous job to be a cop but I think the profession attracts a lot of people who enjoy the power of their position a little too much. A lot came out of the military and are meat heads but then These days you never know who might be a cop killer.

Police only use their tasers when absolutely necessary, when someone is usually extremely out of control. Its better than shooting them right?

We don't let them. Our gov't does. I've had people die frm the "non-lethal" taser blasts. I don't like it either.
