Big Papi...no doubt...
And yes, I'm a Sox fan, but to prove I'm fair, before 2003 I would have said Jeter in a landslide...Papi's record since then has been ridiculous though...he's on top now...
Alan: a "clutch" hitter is one that comes through when the game is on the line...the guy you'd want batting with the winning run on base or down one with two outs in the 9th to keep the game going...alternative question, "Who hits well under pressure?"

David Ortiz AKA "BIG PAPI"
Listen to this... just down right clutch:
Perhaps known best for his remarkable clutch hitting, Ortiz hit 20 home runs in the 2005 season which either tied or gave Boston a lead. Eight of these came in the seventh inning or later. (As of end of Sep 14, 2005.)
Has thirteen career walk-off hits, of which eight have been home runs.
And that's only from Sep 14, 2005... since them hes probably hit a few more... not to mention the playoffs

big papi would be the obvious choice, he's the leading story on sportscenter practically every morning. but if you youngsters did your homework, you would know that nobody in the majors has more 2-out RBI's than jeff francouer of the braves.he's a leading reason why the braves will win the wild card and shock some people in the playoffs, especially fat@ss john kruk and everybody else on espn who has written the braves off. all they've done is go 15-5 in their past 20 games.

David Ortiz. Berkman and Young are two very good hitters, but they do not play under the stress Ortiz plays in at Boston. That I think is the intangible that puts Ortiz over the top.

Pujols, without a doubt. He produces at all times especially in the clutch, unlike Ortiz, the next Cecil Fielder.

Pujols or Ortiz.
Although he is not very high profile, Ramon Hernandez has always come through for the Orioles when they have needed a hit in a tight ball game. Not that the Orioles have many opportunities to win games, though.

Ortiz has proven to be worthy of this cause but Michael Young of Texas is statisticly the most "clutch" player in baseball. Lance Berkman #2

Sort by THT Batting then "Clutch"
Clutch (Link)
"Clutch" is the name we've given to the portion of Bill James's Runs Created formula that includes the impact of a batter's batting average with runners in scoring position and the number of home runs with runners on. The specific formula is Hits with RISP minus overall BA times at bats with RISP, plus HR with runners on minus (all HR/AB) times at bats with runners on. This stat is not a definitive description of "clutch hitting," just one way of looking at it.
