Here's a good guide, written real people!

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g294205-s409/Luxor:Egypt:First.time.Visitors.html

There's quite a few other sections you may be interested in, i.e. attractioms, maps, etc.

Have a safe trip... and do be careful!

P.S. Don't take any notice of the violence in israel. I've been travelling the world for the past 15 years on business. The war is between Israel and Lebanon - not Egypt!!!

Be polite but firm with the touts they are the biggest problem in Luxor, also don't walk around in skimpy clothes cover up when you are not in the hotel. Take lots of water with you if you are going to see the Valley of the Kings. Try not to meet anyones eye on the ferry (bit sad this) as they will then most likely try and talk you into getting into his mates taxi on the other side. The Italian restaurant in the Sheraton is really nice and the Winter Palace is nice to go for lunch. Most of all have a great time. For a hastle free shop go to Gaddis on the Corniche a haven of peace and you can buy some great photos. Go to Karnak it is mindblowing and the Luxor Museum is small enough to remain interesting. If anyone comes up to you and starts hassling you and won't go away start shouting at them and flapping they soon run off.

Stay with an adult. Do not go adventuring on your own. Not because you are not capable or independent but because the culture is quite different and unaccompanied women are not necessarily safe. They are also often viewed differently.

Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated. Do drink bottled water--don't drink from the tap. It is a safety measure. Other than this, enjoy the food.

Some of the easiest keepsakes to buy and bring home are books of postcards--look for these, there are beautiful collections. Later these can be kept in a bookcase, displayed in a scrapbook or under glass.

In a hotel room, leave a little tip each time you leave for the day. It is much appreciated.

Egypt is a place rich in history--visit museums and gardens when you can.

Take heed of all the points raised. The one about the camcorder is flawed as in the tombs you are not allowed to take photographs or movies. If you get caught as I did your camera can be confiscated. That said "baksheesh" works everywhere - everytime. Ten or twenty £E will ensure your camera stays in your possesion. In Egypt money talks, even small amounts.
I compared to you am a right old git but if even at your age you get the chance to go to Cairo for the Musueum and the Giza plateau .. GO,sweet talk your Dad. Also in upper Egypt if the chance occurs go to Abu Simbel, it is a wonder to behold.
If at your age your looking for Hot Spots slash your wrists now. However if you want to see pure history ENJOY.

be very wary of hotel staff.they have all got relatives who sell 14ct gold.it is poor quality and they dont let you out of there shop until you have spent a fair bit.never go out alone, even for a minute.booze very expensive.take salt tablets with you.you will need 1-2 a day WITHOUT FAIL.have a rest between 3-5 as sun is at its hottest.if you are going to see the sights, make sure they are early morning or evening trips.NEVER touch your face after handling there notes.they are very old notes as they cant afford to replace them and they are filthy.if you go to see the tombs and plan on using a camcorder,be prepared to pay around £10 for the privilage.dont eat any egg products.i did and had food poisoning for 5 days.it is a beautiful country with a lot of poverty so be prepared for a lot of beggers.i hope i havent put you off in anyway.if you wish to know anything else, please email anytime.one last thing, make sure you have your injections a few weeks before you go.DO NOT have the malaria one.you will be really bad and its not needed.
hope you have a nice time and remember to wear loads of sun block.

I have been to Egypt many times - it's brilliant! You will have a great time. I think all of the answers are valid really, BUT, there is one thing to be aware of. Of 37 on a Nile cruise, only 2 of us escaped the dreaded squits, me and my wife. It seriously ruins ALL of your holiday.
You need to go to your GP and ask for a drug called CIPROFLOXACIN. Take ONE a day (ignore the prescription which will say two a day). No bad tums.
I and all of my medical colleagues do the same. It's perfectly safe and transforms 2 weeks of diarrhoea into 2 weeks of bliss.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your holiday and HAGGLE with the felucca guys taking you across the Nile, £5 MAX!!.

Think with an exploring and curious mind to experience most of the beautiful memories you may collect from there ..

follow the group guidelines about health and safety .. you will not be alone in that .. just routine.. Younger guys will try to sell, to beg, to get tips or to hassle with their flirts but there you will find everwhere tourism Police section who can stop all of that in a second ..

Don't ruin your pleausure by becoming too cautious .. just enjoy the time and push yourself to watch everything and mix with people .. Egyptians are so kind even though few may misbehave.. just ignore them ..

keep so close to your tour guides and don't forget to visit Aswan .. it's a piece of heavens ..

just enjoy and abide by the laws of the country, but don't forget your standard european two pin plug as you will probably need to recharge your mobile or listen to some music, if your taking some with you, have a wonderful time.
