green day supposedly got their name when they were watching a sesame street show, they were smokin pot, and the name kinda stuck. well i dunno you can get a better explanation from someone else.

idk about metallica or mas ivel, but Green Day got theirs from a certain plant that u can smoke. *cough-marijuana-cough*
