Pinella has been giving advise to A-Rod recently that sems to be paving the way for Pinella's future with the N.Y. Yankees.

Piniella's Sweet Advice for Beleaguered A-Rod
By JON SARACENO
USA Today

"I told him to relax, have some fun and not blame himself," said Lou Piniella, who played 11 seasons in New York. "It's the same thing I'm telling myself as a manager. I understand the picture better."

Piniella paused. "You know, the booing doesn't help. I think the more the fans embrace him, the better he'll do."

Sure, A-Rod switched positions and gave up his number, but he didn't really have a choice. But he has not been able to change the lingering perception that his shoulders are not broad enough to produce when needed most. What he needs is a little perspective. He needs to listen to Lou. Because when his formerly uptight manager and Fox baseball analyst returns to the dugout, it will be as a changed man and manager.

Your thoughts...Good or bad for the N.Y. Yankees?

Pinella's not cut out for a team like the Yankees with lots of Veterans, the first time he laid into Jeter, the fans, media, and Jeter would all turn on him.

Pinella is great at molding a young team, just watch the work he did in Tampa take root over the next few years with rising stars like Crawford, Baldelli, Cantu, and Gomes.

Bottom Line: Pinella isn't good for the Yankees, the Yankees aren't good for Pinella.

Lou Pinella is good guy and a great coach. but his return to Yankee Stadium will not be as a manager. I have a feeling that the next coaching job is going to Joe Girardi. Many might disagree but that's what I see.

I think Lou's a bit to "out there" for Steinbrenner...I think he would favor a low-key guy in the Torre-Showalter mold.

I had thought Joe Girardi was just getting experience down in FLA to prep him for the Yankee job, but Willie Randolph might not be a bad pick either.

Lou will probably be a "special adivisor" like Reggie is now. That way he can live down in Tampa and get paid to stay out of the circus.
