Set up a proportion. 7/34 = 5/?. Notice that I put a question mark in place of the value you're trying to solve for. It is much easier to visualize if you write it out on paper with 7 over 34 and 5 over the question mark. Then multiply the two numbers that are kitty corner across from each other. In this case, 34 is on the bottom on the left and 5 is on the top on the right. So you multiply 34 and 5 and then divide by the number you haven't used yet, which is 7, to get your answer.
34 x 5 = 170
170 divided by 7 rounds to 24.3.

The answer could be anything you can make up a rule for.
Examples:
7 is to 34 as 5 is to 32 (add 27)
7 is to 34 as 5 is to 24.285 (multiply by 4.857)
7 is to 34 as 5 is to 24 (multiply by 5, subtract 1)
7 is to 34 as 5 is to 10 (squared minus 15)
7 is to 34 as 5 is to ** (any number with digits that add up to 5, like 3+4 = 7, such as 14, 101010101, or 30002)
etc.
