The rules are different, but the pieces and board bear a stricking resemblance to Go, which originated in China and is way older than chess.

If he spend twelve hrs a day playing it hes sad other wise hes not. if u think that him playing Pokemon is lame what to you think about 19 year olds who used drugs and alcohol every day. leave the guy alone, if you tease him about being sad because he plays [pokemon what does that make you?
