A parkway is another term for street which obviously, is a place where people drive their vehicles.

A driveway is that part of a private residence where the homeowners and their guests usually park their cars. You drive in a driveway for the sole purpose of parking your vehicle.

Merriam-Webster online explains it all:

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/parkway
"a broad landscaped thoroughfare"

http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/driveway
"a private road giving access from a public way to a building on abutting grounds"

A PARKway is a road (way) that is scenic because of the parkland (landscaping) around it. It has nothing to do with the other kind of "park", as in "parking your car."

A DRIVEway is the path you take to get to the public roads from your house, or the path you take to get to where you can drive freely. You don't necessarily park in it because you could have a garage or small parking area (if you live on a farm).

Duh! You'd create a traffic jam if you 'parked' on a parkway!
