This has happened to mine twice. When I put them in the pocket of my jeans, and my husband helps with laundry but doesn't check the pockets.
He notices the thumping in the drier, so they don't get through a drier cycle. But they do get washed pretty well.
I just make sure to set them out on the counter for a good day or so, and they work again.
I have noticed the distance isn't as good as it once was...but I think it could be the battery is getting low.
Hard to tell until I actually change the battery.
Good luck

Dropped mine in the pool. Take them apart and let dry out and replace the battery. Mine worked again, good luck.

After you put a new battery in it, and make sure there is no soap residue on the inside, it should work. I spilled a whole pitcher of beer on my cell phone once, and it worked after it dried out! ( no pun intended!!)

Place them somewhere where they will be close to dry heat, and don't press any of the buttons.
They'll work again.
