No time soon. Dallas needs to make do with Dumpier and keep doing what they can to help Diop continue to improve.

The Mav will be fine. The team that Dallas has, you dont need a great center. Dampier was a good center at Golden State, it is just the system at Dallas that dont fix him. But he made 50% of his shots (only have about 10-12 touches a game ) and he can body up true center in the league, play every game in the season. If the coach will like Pavel Podkolzin play more, Diop we not see the time of day and maybe be trade this season. Podkolzin and Dampier can do role that the team has for them (all defense, very little offense). Plus once Dallas dump Micheal Finley's salaries (2 years/36 million dollars) you will have the money and Dirk to get a top notch Center.

Probably never. I mean think about it. How many teams have such a center? After Shaq (and at this point in his career, he's lucky to put in 60 games), there really isn't much out there. Yao Ming's probably the next best pure center. Tim Duncan should probably be on that list, but he's listed as a power forward. Ben Wallace is great defensively, but he's undersized and he's an offensive liability. Marcus Camby, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Brad Miller, Chris Kaman, and Jamaal Magloire are probably the only semi-reliable centers in this league. Out of that group, most of those guys are old and/or injury-proned anyway. Plus, after those five plus Shaq, Yao and Duncan/Wallace, that leaves at least 2/3 of the league to fight for centers. AND centers tend to demand a lot more money than they're usually worth because they're so hard to come by...which means Dallas would be less likely to be able to afford precious pieces like Dirk and Terry.

Oh and Pau Gasol, Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh, Jermaine O'Neal and Dwight Howard are all power forwards, not centers.

Dampier and Diop did not do that bad of job in the playoffs. What's more, the Mavs didn't lose because of their center situation. They lost because of Wade.

well u gotta see that dampiar and doip may not be the best centers in the world but both of them helped them beat the San Antonio Spurs. They were built to beat them and both of them is the reason why Tim Duncan couldnt dominate the playoff series. I think the mavericks are in the rite directions if they keep ervything the same. Becuz they shuda won the championship wit a 15 point lead in game 3 in the finals. SO i say they dont need anybody new really jsu maybe a deeper bench and they shud win the championship next year if they play to their potential.

diop will do just fine. he just needs to improve his scoring and his rebounding and he may be one of the best centers in the nba. but its too late for damp since all he does is easy dunks.
