because its their latest ploy for feel good legislation - acting like they are championing the little guy by pitting cigarettes as a public health threat...yet, they do only enough to keep them in office SHORT of abolishing cigarettes...why? because the tax revenue garnered by smoking far exceeds that of any costs associated with treating cancer victims.
personally I say lower the smoking age and let tobacco companies advertise all they want.

It's not just the liberals that are on the anti-smoking bandwagon.
Both the right and left wing politicians are attacking the freedom to choose what we can and cannot do with our own bodies.
Soon we are going to have to buy tobacco from the corner "drug dealer"

The Nanny Staters cross party and ideological lines. To blame this on "liberals" (nothing I love more than the idea of liberals as a monolithic group) is asinine.

i suppose they want a free healthcare for everyone , but as we see in france free heealthcare can be very problematic when there are alot of smokers around that drain the entire healthcare system.
