Not so much...
I've tried a few whiteners and the one I found that worked best was Crest Night Effects. I actually couldn't believe the difference that I saw after 3 nights. And it's even cheaper than the strips.

Don't expect a very dramatic "whitening" of the teeth, but they do promise whitening of up to three shades brighter than your current tooth "color." It's a good alternative to going to the dentist and paying a few hundred dollars for teeth whitening, and it hasn't been shown to have very few side effects. If you're thinking about it, but don't want to pay too much for it, also check out their website. Usually, teeth whitening kits offer online some coupons or discounts for the questioning consumer. Hope I've helped!

They made my teeth REALLY sensitive and it actually hurt the gums around my teeth (even turned them temporarily white... weird). I'd look into the tray whitening systems because they only take like 2 hours. Also, the whiteness didn't last really long and you have to do it every 6 months.

I don't think so. I had the same result that the person who submitted the FAQ linked below had where my teeth seemed "grey" or "transparent" colored, and not actually "whiter".
I think the best thing is to avoid foods that stain your teeth like regular coffee or tea, and avoid smoking, or anything highly pigmented that will cause your teeth to yellow. Also brush your teeth with Baking soda right after you eat or as often as you can. Consider bringing a travel-tooth brush if you eat out a lot. ;) Be ever vigilant against plaque at all costs!
Fight, fight, fight!

they worked really good for me, but my teeth werent that yellow to begin with. when i went to the dentist and inquired about "zoom" whitening and the take home trays, he recommended crest white strips. he said you just have to follow directions exactly and leave them on for 30 minutes twice a day until they are gone! have fun :)

Personally, I say no. They don't last very long before your teeth start getting yellow again. I would go in for professional whitening even though it is a little pricy, because it can last quite a while.

some people think it is. but i'm broke so i won't pay 30 dollars for it. . the main chemical in them is hydrogen peroxide so if you dip a q-tip in peroxide and rub it on dry teeth it can slightly whiten them. be sure not to use a ton b/c it's best not too swallow it. just use a tiny bit on the qtip. it won't work as fast as the strips but it will help.

i have tried them before after i had my braces taken off. they worked really well on me and i didnt even use it for the full week as directed. since i had leftovers, i saved it for my senior picture so i had white teeth. i really like the strips even if they are kinda awkward while they are on.
but if your teeth are really stained, then going to the dentist would be the only resort.
as for sensitivity.. my teeth were a bit sensitive afterwards but it was no big deal.
gum irritation? as long as you put on the strip correctly, it shouldnt be touching your gums all too much so my gums were never irritated.

i don't think so... if you don't keep still, then they will move around so much that they aren't even on your teeth after a few minutes.... you can get the trays with whitening gel at the dentist pretty cheap now though.
