I've just read previous answers before I decided to answer your question, and just let me say, don't listen to some of them. One girl replied,"Why would you want to do that? That's your child." Yeah, your GROWN child. You're absolutely right for wanting your child to go out on their own feet and learn how the world really works as an independent adult, just like you did. You have to explain to your child that it's high time that they start depending on themselves instead of leaning on you all the time. If your child doesn't have a job, make them get one, and have them give the paycheck to you so you can put it into a savings account so they don't go splurging on a shopping spree at the mall with it. Give them a little time to start working on themselves first. And don't forget to tell them that the reason they are doing this is so they can get their own house and their own life, so you can have yours. Frankly, if they're still in your house, they don't have their own life, yet. Once they get up enough money, have them look for a condo, townhouse, or apartment, something small to start off with. You don't want to give them a full house as their first home on their own because they might not take care of it properly; they need practice to build up responsibility. And once they find a house, the rest should be easy.

Make his life as uncomfortable as possible. Let him take care of himself. Let him cook his dinner, his laundry , clean his room, do his dishes. You are his mother annoy him into leaving. Tell him he can't have his feet on the coffee table ect.
You can tell him that he has a certain time to be able to get out on his own and to start taking care of himself.

You can watch "Failure to Launch" w/ matthew mcconaughey and sarah jessica parker. It is a fairly new release that deals with this issue.
